While not exactly elegant, the Boogie record out ( in itself nowhere close to being self sufficient, even with what is now some form of very dated cab simulation ) when used with a cab sim sounds pretty good across the 3 channels, with the addition of the 5 band graphic to dime in each part. Lately I have been experimenting with the "record out " option on the Boogie, using the Kemper as a cab sim, while taking advantage of some of the time based FX (most of my processing is done within the UAD domain going into the Apollo, recording solely in Luna these days using the vast array of UAD plug ins I have accumulated. ( I am not denigrating the Kemper as it does an incredible job for what it is, with the right profiles and has served me well ). As for the Kemper, I have struggled with, what I hear as, various digital artefacts when it comes to anything other than fairly clean profiles, this along with a lack of dimension and articulation at times. While I have various Marshalls and a favourite Pro Reverb, I do most of my tracking with a Boogie MKIV which gives me great versatility. I do mic up various amps but sometimes enjoy the ease of working without the hassle.Īs an alternative, I have used a Kemper for a long time, especially for ambient parts on soundtrack work. I am full-time recording theses days and for live (should the need arise ) I would always take one of my amps. Would love to hear folks thoughts on this, as I am having a hard time making up my mind which way to go.
